  • About the Department

Livestock Farm Complex (LFC) department, established in 2012 under the regulations of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI), initially featured lessons conducted by faculty from various departments such as Nutrition, Livestock Production Management (LPM), and Animal Genetics and Breeding (AGB). In 2015, the Directorate of Research, Extension, and Farms (DREF) delegated farm management responsibilities to the LFC Department, which now manages the animals used for practical training in LFC and related disciplines. Previously known as ILFC, the LFC serves as a critical academic and operational resource in veterinary colleges nationwide, providing students with hands-on experience in animal husbandry, farm management, and disease prevention. In states like West Bengal, the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) serves as a key institution overseeing education, research, and training in fields related to animal and fishery sciences through its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It further contributes by managing instructional and demonstrational units focused on cattle, goats, and pigs, which aid in teaching, research, and community extension activities, while simultaneously providing vital resources to support postgraduate research initiatives.
