Historical Legacy of the Faculty

The Bachelor programme in Dairy Sciences was started in the year 1977 under the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV). It was the third institute of its kind to impart dairy education in India. With the bifurcation of BCKV and creation of West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS) in 1995, the institute is now renamed as Faculty of Dairy Technology, an independent and self-sufficient institute under WBUAFS, providing excellent academic and research support base in Dairy Technology and allied fields.

The Faculty of Dairy Technology is the only institute in Eastern India offering undergraduate and postgraduate education in the field of Dairy Technology and related subjects since its inception over 39 years ago, Faculty of Dairy Technology, with its unique model of education, has been churning out quality Dairy Technocrats who have used their technical acumen to help their organization climb never heights of excellence in food, dairy and allied sectors of the industry in India and abroad.

The Faculty of Dairy Technology presently has five Departments:

• Department of Dairy Technology
• Department of Dairy Engineering
• Department of Dairy Chemistry
• Department of Dairy Microbiology
• Department of Dairy Business Management

Pilot Dairy Unit cum Business Process Development Centre is one of the core parts of the faculty where students gain practical knowledge and prepare for their future careers.
